I decided to apply in early March and didn't think I would get accepted to GEB in time to get into a summer class. The woman at admissions actually told me I most likely would not be able to because their June and July classes were full.
I had my home visit on Wednesday, and the rep fell in love with me. I told him I wanted to get the guide dog this summer so I could attend community college next summer. I also said that if I couldn't get into GEB, I had applied to Leader Dog as a safety school. He did not like the sound of that, and told me he would kick and scream for me to get into GEB. I don't know what he said or what happened, but yesterday, admissions called and informed me I could attend their June 4th class. I was speechless, because two days before, I was hearing a different story.
I am unbelievably excited and can't believe my class date is only a month after the last day of school! I can't wait to meet my furry friend!

Major congrats! I'd want a summer class too, for a whole variety of reasons. I've heard GEB is a very good school. When I was looking into getting a dog when I was 18, I was not impressed with them because they told me that though they thought I would one day make a very good guide dog user, they felt I was not quite ready. I was angry with them at the time, but in retrospect, I'm very impressed. They were the only school who saw things for how they were, and cared enough about me, and their dogs, to be honest about it. That shows they were looking at the person, not just at their bottom line for numbers of graduates. If I ever do get a dog again, that is where I would go.
